Frequently Asked Questions

1Who Benefits from Dry Ice Blasting?
- Factories & Industrial Plants
- Clean machinery, conveyors, motors, and more without dismantling.
- Auto Shops & Car Collectors – Remove grease and grime from engines, underbodies, and restorations.
- Homeowners – Clean mold, fire damage, or historical wood surfaces with precision and safety.
- Commercial Businesses – Maintain cleanliness in food production, printing, packaging, and other industries.
2Why Choose Dry Ice Blasting?
- Non-Abrasive – Won’t scratch or wear down delicate parts or finishes.
- Eco-Friendly – No water, chemicals, or secondary waste. Safe for sensitive environments.
- Efficient – Cuts cleaning time dramatically and reduces equipment downtime.
- Safe for Electronics – Perfect for cleaning electrical panels, motors, and machinery.
- Great for Restoration – Ideal for removing smoke damage, mold, and even old paint without stripping the underlying material.
3Can it be used indoors?
Absolutely. It's safe indoors with proper ventilation and is often used in food facilities, factories, garages, and homes.
4Is it more expensive than other cleaning methods?
It may cost a little more upfront but saves time, reduces labor, and avoids damage — making it more cost-effective long term.
5Will it leave a mess?
No. Dry ice turns into gas on impact, leaving nothing behind but a clean surface.
6Is dry ice blasting safe for my equipment or vehicle?
Yes. It’s non-abrasive and doesn’t use water or harsh chemicals. It won’t damage paint, electronics, or sensitive surfaces.

How It Works

Dry ice cleaning offers a non-toxic, environmentally friendly alternative to traditional cleaning methods that creates no secondary waste in the cleaning process. It can also reduce time and labor costs when compared to other methods.

What is dry ice blasting?

Dry ice blasting is a cleaning method that uses compressed air to shoot dry ice pellets (solid carbon dioxide) at high speeds. When the pellets hit the surface, they instantly sublimate (turn from solid to gas), lifting away dirt, grease, paint, mold, and other contaminants — all without damaging the surface and providing incomparable results.

It is similar to sand, bead and soda blasting in that it prepares and cleans surfaces using a media accelerated in a pressurized air stream. It differs in that dry ice cleaning uses recycled solid carbon dioxide (CO2) pellets or Microparticles, which are blasted at supersonic speeds and sublimate on impact, lifting dirt and contaminants off the underlying substrate.

The process is non-abrasive, non-conductive, non-flammable, and non-toxic. It is also chemical free, water free and does not create secondary waste streams. The dry ice sublimates, or phase transitions from solid CO2 to gaseous CO2, when it impacts the surface being cleaned.

How does dry ice blasting work?

Dry ice blasting uses compressed air to propel small pellets of dry ice (solid CO₂) at high speed. When these pellets hit a surface, three things happen:

  1. Cold Shock – The extreme cold (-109°F) causes surface materials to contract and break away.
  2. Impact – The force of the pellet knocks loose surface contaminants like dirt, grease, paint, or rust.
  3. Sublimation – The dry ice turns instantly into a gas, expanding and lifting contaminants without leaving any residue behind.

What Can Be Cleaned with Dry Ice Blasting?

Dry ice blasting is incredibly versatile. It’s safe for delicate surfaces but tough enough for industrial grime. Common uses include:

  •  Cold Shock – The extreme cold (-109°F) causes surface materials to contract and break away.
  • Impact – The force of the pellet knocks loose surface contaminants like dirt, grease, paint, or rust.
  • Sublimation – The dry ice turns instantly into a gas, expanding and lifting contaminants without leaving any residue behind.
